Snow Patrol is an alternative rock act based out of Northern Ireland. Originally called Polar Bear, Snow Patrol was formed by Gary Lightbody in 1994 at the University of Dundee. They released their first full length album in 1998 on Jeepster Records entitiled "Songs for Polarbears". They released one more album on Jeepster before being dropped by the label in 2001. They signed to Polydor Records and released "Final Straw". The album became quite popular in the U.K. due to the success of their single "Run". They toured in support of this album by opening for U2 on their Vertigo tour. They then released "Eyes Open" in May of 2005 and gained a large audience in the U.S. as well due to their single "Chasing Cars", which was featured on television series such as "Grey's Anatomy" and "One Tree Hill". They have since toured the world and have performed on shows such as "Saturday Night Live" and the final show of the U.K. series "Top of the Pops". "Eyes Open" has gone platinum in the U.S. and was the top-selling CD in the U.K. in 2006.
